Notes: Sardis Cemetery is located about 3/4 mile south of Sardis on the road to Saltillo. It is an old cemetery and one of the largest in Henderson County. The cemetery is well maintained. Like many area cemeteries which have been in continuous use since before the Civil War, fieldstone have all been removed and the oldest part of the cemetery near the crest of the rise in the center is being reused. There markers from the 1960s through 1990s are surrounded by markers from the 1830s through 1860s. The total number of people buried here without markers cannot be estimated but must number a couple of hundred.
David Donahue recorded Sardis Cemetery October 30, 1999 and checked and updated it April 11 and 13, 2004. Alicia Adcox, Anita Webb, Betsy Patterson, and Derrick Lewis recorded this cemetery circa 1976. Their record appears in Henderson County, Tennessee Cemetery Inscriptions (R. H. Harris, Memphis, 1976). This earlier work is referred to as "Adcox et al." in the notes below.
