Common Errors in the Hart Family.
Over the years people have worked on this family and some of this work has resulted in errors that repeat themselves over and over again. The most common error are the daughters of Heth. What has been done was the taking of all the early marriages of Highland Co. through the 1830’s and saying that all these female marriages were the daughters of Heth. Dolly Hart who married Samuel Brown and Caty Hart who married John Fox ARE NOT daughters of Heth. The marriages are as follows:
From "Marriage Records of Highland County, Ohio (1805-1990)" by the McBride's, spellings as their appear in actual record:
Rebekah Art to Aron Houghman on 13 Feb 1812 by Jacob Worley, J.P.
Nancy Hart to James Fanwick on 5 Sep 1806 by Sam'l Evans, J.P.
Ann Hart to Thomas Lucas by Moses Trador, Minister
Elizabeth Hart to Berry Hurt on 25 Feb 1817. (Only record is in the index. book for 1817 is lost.)
Dolly Hart to Samuel Brown on 25 Dec 1817 (see above note)
Caty Hart to John Fox on 21 Nov 1833 by Nathaniel Walton, J.P.
Elizabeth Hart m. Eli Chaney Dec 14th, 1820 Brown Country. This entry needs researched.
Rebecca is left out of many records in those researching because it was difficult to read the
writing whether it says Hart or Art. There are no “ARTS” found in history of the county or surrounding counties. I have included her as a daughter of Heth especially as a result of the court case calling her the daughter of the Mountain Man. Caty who married John Fox is not a daughter but a granddaughter and from records in Peoria Co. Illinois it clearly states she is the daughter of Joel. I have also taken Dolly Hart and placed her not as Heth’s daughter but the daughter of Thomas the eldest son. This family moves to Henderson Co. Tennessee in about 1827-1829 and Dolly with her husband is living right next to Thomas and family. I am working on Elizabeth which after every search imaginable is not found anywhere but will continue to look for her. This is also true of Ann and Thomas, though found on the 1830 and 1840 , I’m not sure who the family is and can’t locate anywhere on the 1850. There are obviously children in this family according to the census, so somewhere out there is the answer.
There is YES another Hart family in Highland Co.! They include a father John Hart b. 1780 Pennsylvania and his wife Barbara Hart who were married in 1806 in Highland Co. They have at least 2 sons Jonathan Hart ca 1820 who married Mary Ann Pollard and Jacob Hart ca 1812 who married Martha Clark. This family lived in Jackson, Highland Co. There is one other person whom I'm not sure if they are connected to this family or ours. I'm more inclined with his name to believe he's part of ours. He also lives in Jackson. This is Silas Hart ca 1808 OH who married Elizabeth Bower on 3/14/1829 Highland Co. In 1880 he is in Jackson, Highland Co. and says his father was born in North Carolina, his mother in Virginia.
